About Us
The Association of Cambridge Neighborhoods is a 501(c)(3) non profit organization made up of members of neighborhood groups from across Cambridge. Our purpose is to share information and expertise in ways that will help residents deal effectively with issues that affect quality of life where we live. Founded by the late John Moot and Stash Horowitz, our aim is to pool our collective knowledge, experience, and skills to give residents a more effective voice when dealing with development, zoning, and city government. Often, when confronted with these things, residents are at a disadvantage due to lack of experience. Many of our active members have spent quite a bit of time over the years attending and testifying at meetings of the City Council, Planning Board, Board of Zoning Appeals, License Commission etc. We also have much collective experience dealing with developers, institutions, and city staff. We use this knowledge to help in our own neighborhoods and are able to help each other and newcomers when issues come up.
This can happen in various ways. Researching and explaining the Cambridge Zoning Ordinance is one, as is guiding folks through the maze of city departments, hearings, timelines, and processes. We can help prepare testimony for hearings, and help create more effective strategies to accomplish neighborhood goals. Come join the discussion to learn more. We usually meet on evening of the third Wednesday of each month. Times and locations can vary, as we like to meet in different neighborhoods around the city.
